Encouraging Local Investment

Encouraging Local Investment

“What I’m about is a new style of leadership and what I represent is a new generation of ideas.

In my last eight years of serving on Blacksburg Town Council we have tried to tackle our reputation for not being very business friendly.

Being business friendly doesn’t mean that we rubber-stamp any development application that comes in, it doesn’t mean that we approve any proposal or grant every request.

What it means is that we have clear, consistent and predictable processes in place that take out the guesswork from our investors or residents who are looking to do business in our community. It means that we maintain our quality standards, our codes and regulations, but execute with a positive and helpful attitude that gets us to a solution for the applicant.

It means a shift in culture, attitude and practice. It means being friendly – Blacksburg friendly – and welcoming to people with good intentions and good ideas.

What’s good for our city is good for business.

We HAVE TO do things our own way – a way that translates that we want creative improvements and additions to our community – but we are not willing to build and add at any cost. By TAKING OUT THE GUESSWORK and putting in consistent, predictable and clear processes in place and executing them in a timely manner, we will encourage LOCALS to invest in our City because the locals will know what to expect.
